Tom Burch became general counsel for Pope & Land Enterprises, Inc. in 2008, after more than 30 years practicing real estate law in Georgia, Illinois and Japan. As a partner in the law firms of Paul, Hastings; Jones, Day and Hansel & Post, he represented financial institutions and developers, including Pope & Land, in traditional real estate loan originations as well as in joint ventures and other equity investments. He also has extensive experience in restructuring investments and loan workouts. During his time in Japan, he focused on cross border financings of Japanese nonperforming loan portfolios, hard asset portfolios and individual property transactions. Now his practice focuses on representing Pope & Land and its affiliates.
Tom received his B.S. degree, with honors, in 1968, and his J.D. degree, also with honors, in 1974, both from the University of Illinois. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Forum, the University of Illinois' law review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
Before attending law school, Tom served in the U.S. Army (Captain, Armor Branch) from 1968 to 1971. His military awards include the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He and his family live in Dunwoody, Georgia.
